(Lebanon, Ill., Mar.2) – The McKendree University softball team went 1-1 against the Jennies of Central Missouri, improving their record to 8-8 on the year.
In game one, the McKendree offense scored two runs in the first inning but were quickly answered by the Jennies in the top of the second. The Bearcats broke the stalemate in the bottom of the third when freshman
Whitney Boschert (Wentzville, MO/Francis Howell High School) smacked a homer down the left-field line to re-gain the lead 3-2. The Bearcats added to their lead when sophomore
Shelby Summer (Washington, IL/Washington) hit a homerun of her own, sending in
Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame) on the play. McKendree put three more on the board through the last two innings, sealing their eighth win of the season, 8-2.
Central Missouri held a commanding lead through the majority of game two, notching a 3-0 lead through the first three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth, the Bearcats tied it up by earning one run on a
Jenny Homann (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg High School) double and two runs on a
Konnor Arrowood (Fulton, MO/South Callaway) single. The Jennies answered with a two-run homerun in the fifth to regain the lead. Both teams traded runs in the sixth and seventh, leading to a Central Missouri win, 6-4.
The Bearcats will head back out to the diamond Friday, March 8 as they take on the Rangers of Parkside at Bearcat Field.
