(HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Feb. 9) – The McKendree University softball team opened their 2019 campaign Saturday, February 9 with a resounding win over Henderson State Univeristy 11-2, followed by a loss to Shorter University 10-2 later that afternoon.
In the Henderson State game, eight separate Bearcats scored with junior
Jenny Homann (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg High School) by way of three RBIs. Defensively, pitcher
Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) struck out four Henderson hitters while only allowing a total of five hits while on the mound.
Against Shorter, Gajewski would also score a run and a hit, while sophomore
Haegen Boyer (Eddyville, IA/Eddyville) recorded both RBIs for McKendree. Pitcher
Whitney Boschert (Wentzville, MO/Francis Howell High School) recorded two strikeouts while on the mound against the Hawks.
Charger Chillout action recommences Sunday morning when the Bearcats take on Mississippi College at 11 AM, followed by the University of Montevallo at 1 PM.
