(LEBANON, Ill., Mar.12) – The McKendree University softball team picked up two wins against the Panthers of Ohio Dominican Tuesday afternoon, booming offensively with a total of four home runs in both matchups combined, winning game one 9-1 and game two 7-3.
Game one saw McKendree go down by one run off a Panthers homerun. The remainder of the matchup was dominated by the Bearcats, highlighted by three home runs that came courtesy of
Abbie Bailey (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) who hit back-to-back homers in the fifth and sixth innings, and
Hannah Murphy (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North) who sent one over the center-field fence in the sixth inning as well.
Game two also saw the Bearcats explode offensively, scoring two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Ohio Dominican took a short lead after the top of the third 3-2, however McKendree had other plans. The Bearcats took the lead back with force in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs including two from a
Haegen Boyer (Eddyville, IA/Eddyville) homerun.
The Bearcats return to the diamond Wednesday, March 13 as they play host to the visiting Gorillas of Pitt State in doubleheader action beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
Currently, the Gorillas are 10-11 on the year after most recently splitting games in a doubleheader against the Saints of Maryville University.
