(LEBANON, Ill., March 19)--
The McKendree University baseball team will step back into Great Lakes Valley Conference action Wednesday with a doubleheader at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. First pitch for the twinbill is set for 11 a.m.

McKendree heads into Wednesday's doubleheader with an overall record of 5-12 and a 2-4 mark in GLVC play. The Bearcats were slowed in the rubber game of a three-game conference series Sunday at home by the University of Indianapolis, 7-5. McKendree took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning before the visiting Greyhounds put up four unearned runs to rally for the win. Matt Klosterman (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) had six hits in 13 at-bats against UIndy, batting at a .462 clip. Andrew Aydt (Wildwood, MO/Eureka) was 4-for-10 with three walks against the Greyhounds, while Drake Hampton (Godfrey, IL/Alton) posted three doubles and three RBI in the series. On the mound, Jared Timmerman (New Baden, IL/Wesclin)n turned in a quality start in the middle game of the series -- a 2-1 victory for the Bearcats -- where he allowed one unearned run on just three hits with four strikeouts over the first 7 1/3 innings. McKendree won the contest on a walk-off wild pitch.

Bryce Emery (Harrisburg, IL/Harrisburg) carries a team-leading .378 batting average into the UMSL doubleheader, while Hayden Schaefer (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) is next at .340. Schaefer and Drew Reich (Charlestown, IN/Charlestown) lead the Bearcats with 11 runs scored. Klosterman and Hampton share team-high honors with five stolen bases apiece. In addition to leading McKendree with three homers and 10 RBI, Aydt has drawn a team-best 13 walks. Levi Brening (Coon Rapids, MN/DuQuoin) leads the McKendree pitching staff with 26 strikeouts, while Ryan Vogt (Ava, IL/Trico) is next with 19.

Wednesday's doubleheader begins a stretch where McKendree will play eight of nine games on the road. The Bearcats' lone home contest at Hypes Field during that span will come on March 26 when McKendree and UMSL will close out their three-game conference series. The Bearcats will be at Truman State University this weekend before visiting Lewis University March 30-31 in league play.

ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS
The Tritons check in at 4-13 on the year and 3-3 in the GLVC. UMSL took two of three games at home last weekend against Bellarmine University, edging the Knights in the rubber game by a 9-8 score. The Tritons will be closing out a five-game home stand with Wednesday's twinbill against McKendree.

Andrew Hayden is the only Triton starter hitting above the .300 mark as he is batting .303. Jacob Stoker is next at .297, followed by Derrick Freeman at .292. Freeman leads Missouri-St. Louis with 10 runs batted in. Koltyn Schilly paces the Tritons with four stolen bases.

Bobby Shallenbarger has a 3.50 earned-run average in five appearances that includes three starts. Shallenbarger has struck out 16 batters, which is second on the squad to Jon Mahanay who has fanned 17 in just 10 1/3 innings of work.

McKendree and UMSL have not played since the 2017 season. On April 18, 2017 at Hypes Field, the Bearcats scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and held off a late comeback by the Tritons to post a 14-10 victory.
