Clemmer, Gramly, O’Keefe Headline List of McKendree MIAA Honorees

(LEBANON, Ill., March 20)—Once again, the McKendree University women's bowling program was well-represented on the post-season awards list for the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).

The MIAA released its list of 2018-19 bowling awards and honorees on Wednesday. The Bearcats swept the three major honors announced by the conference as junior Breanna Clemmer (Clover, SC/Clover) was voted the 2018-19 MIAA Bowler of the Year, while Hope Gramly (Prosper, TX/Prosper) was named the league's Freshman of the Year. And for the third consecutive year, McKendree head coach Shannon O'Keefe was recognized by her peers as the 2018-19 MIAA Coach of the Year.

In addition to the three major awards, a total of six McKendree bowlers were named to the All-MIAA team for this season. Clemmer and Gramly were joined by senior Lauren Pate (Inver Groves Heights, MN/Simley) and junior Taylor Bailey (Joliet, IL/Joliet West) as first-team All-Conference honorees, while senior Ashley Dunn (Palmdale, CA/Quartz Hill) and junior Shannon Grimm (Fenton, MO/Rockwood Summit) were selected as honorable mention All-MIAA recipients.

Clemmer averaged a team-leading 211.52 in traditional play this season, which included her season-high of 268 on two different occasions in 2018-19. She was a two-time MIAA Bowler of the Week honoree this season, giving her six MIAA weekly honors in her three seasons with the Bearcats. Clemmer finished in the top 20 during eight of the Bearcats' nine NCAA tournaments in 2018-19, including four top-fives.

This is the second time in three seasons that Clemmer has been honored as the MIAA Bowler of the Year. She also claimed the honor in her freshman campaign of 2016-17.

Gramly burst onto the scene for McKendree during her rookie season. She averaged 202.71 in traditional play – good for third on the team -- and posted a season-high 249 against MIAA rival Lincoln. Gramly had five top-20 finishes in tournament play, which included a pair of top-five showings. Gramly earned MIAA Bowler of the Week honors just two weeks ago following her individual championship at the Big Red Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska.

For Gramly, this marks the second different sport in which she earned Freshman of the Year accolades in 2018-19. She was also recognized by the Great Lakes Valley Conference as the league's Volleyball Freshman of the Year back in the fall.

O'Keefe once again has led the McKendree program to a top-five national ranking as the Bearcats will enter the post-season rated No. 2 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) coaches poll. She helped guide McKendree to a 79-33 dual match record during the 2018-19 regular season.

Pate was second on the McKendree squad in traditional average this season, averaging 202.95 while competing in all 48 traditional contests for the Bearcats. She registered a high game of 259 and notched six top-20 finishes in 2018-19, including four top-10 efforts. Pate has now earned first-team All-MIAA accolades in each of the last three seasons.

Bailey was fourth among the McKendree starting lineup in traditional average at 201.56. Her high game was 268 in 2018-19 and she registered seven top-20 showings on the year. That includes a pair of top-10 finishes this season. This marks the third consecutive year that Bailey was a first-team All-MIAA selection for McKendree.

Dunn averaged 210.17 on the year, with a high game of 257. She also collected a pair of top-10 finishes in tournament action. Grimm posted a 197.42 average in traditional play, which included a high of 238. Grimm also notched one top-20 finish in 2018-19.
