(SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Mar. 23) - The McKendree University softball program went 0-2 against the Prairie Stars of Illinois-Springfield earlier Saturday afternoon, falling in Game One 2-0 and Game Two 8-3.
Junior
Jenny Homann (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg High School) led the Bearcats offensively in both games, totaling four hits, one run scored, three RBIs, and a one-run homer in the top of the seventh inning in game two.
Game one was a defensive battle, with junior pitcher
Kylee Silliman (Fremont, IA/Oskaloosa) allowing just three hits in a seven-strikeout campaign, although Illinois Springfield was able to capitalize and score one run in both the fourth and sixth innings while the McKendree batters fought to get their offense going.
Game two saw McKendree open up with one run in the top of the first, however UIS had an answer to every run the Bearcats tallied, scoring three in the bottom of the third and another three runs in the bottom of the fourth after McKendree scored once more in the top of the third. The Bearcats had plenty of opportunities to score with nine total players left on base through seven innings, however the Prairie Stars were able to hold out for the win and complete the sweep.
The Bearcats will return to the diamond this Wednesday, March 27 as they play host to a non-conference opponent in Kentucky Wesleyan College. Doubleheader action against the Panthers will begin at 2:00 p.m.
