Homers from Bailey and Homann Secure Softball Sweep Against Kentucky Wesleyan

(LEBANON, Ill., Mar. 27) - The McKendree University softball team completed a sweep over the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan College this Wednesday afternoon, highlighted by a pair of home-runs that came in game one from Jenny Homann (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg High School) and Abbie Bailey (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew), with Bailey's homer sealing a McKendree win in a two run walk-off fashion. The Bearcats won game one by a score of 6-5 and game two 5-1.

The Bearcats held the lead in game one immediately after Homann rocketed a two-run homer over the center field fence in the bottom of the first, and increased their lead to four by the end of the fourth inning. Kentucky Wesleyan exploded in the top of the sixth, scoring six runs and ultimately forcing the Bearcats to bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs on the board and sophomore Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) on first, Abbie Bailey (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) stepped to the plate and delivered a high-flying ball to right field. The ball sailed over the fence, sending two runs in and preserving a 6-5 victory for the Bearcats. On top of Bailey's performance, Homann, sent in three RBIs herself while going 2-3 at the plate.

In game two, McKendree took the lead and never reliquished it after the third inning, taking a 3-1 lead. The Bearcats would score thrice more in the bottom of the sixth on a Bailey RBI single, a Panther first base error, and an Ashleigh McKinley (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge High School) sac fly to center field.

The Bearcats improve to 15-17 overall on the year, and recommence Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play this Saturday and Sunday when they take on the Saints of Maryville University and the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis in a pair of doubleheaders.
