(QUINCY, Ill., Apr. 13) - The McKendree University fell in both games to the Hawks of Quincy University after narrowly falling in game one by a score of 7-6 in extra innings and falling in game two 8-1. With the two losses, the Bearcats fall to 18-24 overall on the season and 3-13 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
Despite McKendree leading for the majority of the game one, home-field advantage ultimately made the difference as the Hawks scored three in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score at six and force extra innings. Quincy was able to seal their win by holding the Bearcats scoreless in the top of the eighth and hitting a walk-off homer in the bottom of the inning.
Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) hit 2-3 with one homer and four RBIs in the loss.
Game two was tied at one through the top of the fourth, however Quincy capitalized on a seven-run effort in the bottom of the fourth to hold on to their second win of the day. Senior
Megan Radae (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) hit 1-3 in game two, sending in one RBI.
The Bearcats will be back in action this Monday, April 15 when they travel to Kirksville, MO to take on the Bulldogs of Truman State in another GLVC doublheader beginning at 1 p.m.
