(LEBANON, Ill., April 19)--The McKendree University baseball team returns to Hypes Field this weekend to play host to Missouri S&T in a three-game, Great Lakes Valley Conference series. The Bearcats and Miners are slated to play a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch set for 1 p.m. The teams will then wrap up the weekend with a single game on Sunday at noon.
The Bearcats are led at the plate by
Bryce Emery (Harrisburg, IL/Harrisburg) with a .337 average.
Hayden Schaefer (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) is batting .308 for McKendree.
Drew Reich (Charlestown, IN/Charlestown), who hit two home runs in the Bearcats' non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at Southwest Baptist University, has pushed his season total to nine. Reich is looking to become the first McKendree player to reach double digits in round-trippers since 2010, when Kory Peppenhorst blasted 10 in his senior season. Reich also has a team-leading 23 RBI for McKendree.
Matt Klosterman (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) has registered nine stolen bases in 11 attempts.
On the mound,
Jared Timmerman (New Baden, IL/Wesclin)n leads McKendree with 42 innings pitched.
Ryan Vogt (Ava, IL/Trico) has notched a team-high 38 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings of work.
Adam Bunnell (Salem, IL/Salem) has registered three saves to lead all McKendree pitchers.
Following this weekend's action against Missouri S&T, the Bearcats will be on the road for five games next week, beginning with a non-conference game Tuesday evening at NCAA Division I Southeast Missouri State University. McKendree will then visit Lindenwood University Wednesday evening before heading to Kansas City over the weekend for a three-game conference set against Rockhurst University.
ABOUT MISSOURI S&T
The Miners enter the weekend with a 22-13 overall record and 15-9 mark in GLVC play. Missouri S&T swept its series last weekend at home against the University of Missouri-St. Louis, scoring 34 runs in the process.
Five Miner starters are batting above .300 this season, led by Matt Gruse at .351. Jason Volkmann is next at .340, while Tim Lira is batting .321 for Missouri S&T with team-leading totals of six home runs and 30 RBI. Cameron Burk has stolen 14 bases to lead Missouri S&T, and is followed closely by Kaleb Reid with 12 swipes.
Luke Marcheschi paces the Miners' staff with seven wins. Marcheschi is 7-1 overall with a 3.56 earned-run average in nine starts. Dalton Erger is 4-4 on the year with a 3.23 ERA and a team-high 54 strikeouts in 61 1/3 innings of work. Conner Forsythe has registered five saves to lace Missouri S&T.
Missouri S&T won all three meetings against McKendree last season. The Miners took both ends of a doubleheader on March 16, 2018 by scores of 13-6 and 4-2 before posting an 11-5 triumph on April 18. All three games were played at Hypes Field.
