(LEBANON, Ill., Apr. 19) - The McKendree University softball team dropped two games to the no. 9 Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis this Friday afternoon. The Bearcats are now 18-28 on the year and 3-17 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play in 2019.
UIndy leaped out to multi-run leads in both the first inning of games one and two, scoring four in each. McKendree had plenty of scoring chances in game one however, with shortstop
Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame) hitting two for four while, as a team, leaving a total of seven runners on base. The Greyhounds added two more runs in the top of the fifth and sealed their game one victory by a score of 6-0.
In game two, UIndy was able to add two runs in the second and fourth innings while keeping the Bearcat hitters at bay.
Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest)Â and
Shelby Summer (Washington, IL/Washington) both earned hits in the bottom of the fourth, however McKendree was unable to capitalize on the opportunity and fell 8-0 through five innings.
The Bearcats will take the field once more at home this Saturday, April 20 as they play host to GLVC rival Lewis University. Seniors
Megan Radae (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville),
Sara Radae (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville), and
Samantha Cameron (Dix, Ill./Centralia, Ill.) will be honored after the doubleheader action has concluded.
