(LEBANON, Ill., Apr. 27) - The McKendree University softball team dropped two games to the Cardinals of William Jewell College by a score of 9-1 in game one and 4-3 in game two.
In game one, William Jewell was able to take advantage of a five-run third inning to maintain their lead over the Bearcats, whose sole run came off a homer courtesy of
Konnor Arrowood (Fulton, MO/South Callaway).Â
Game two saw the Bearcats down 2-0 through the first five innings, until
Shelby Summer (Washington, IL/Washington) and
Jenny Homann (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg High School) both earned RBIs while a
Samantha Cameron (Dix, Ill./Centralia, Ill.) cameron single led to a Jewell error, sending Summer in for a third run and a 3-2 lead for McKendree after the top of the sixth. The Cardinals were able to tie the score up in the bottom of the sixth, and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Both
Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame) and
Shelby Summer (Washington, IL/Washington) hit doubles in the loss.
The Bearcats will be back in action this Sunday, April 28 as they travel to Rockhurst University for the final two games of the 2019 saeson.Â
