Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day With a 19-1 Victory Over Maryville

(LEBANON, Ill., Apr. 28) - The McKendree University women's lacrosse program dominated the Saints of Maryville by a score of 19-1 after honoring Bearcat seniors Katie Kruse (Dardenne Prairie, MO/Barat Academy), Emily Nelson (Deephaven, MN/Holy Family Catholic), and Hannah Sugarman (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional). McKendree is now 10-6 on the year and 9-3 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play, this being the first 10-win season since 2017 when the Bearcats won the GLIAC regular season and tournament titles.

In a high-octane offensive performance from the Bearcats, freshman attacker Kathryn Albrecht (Louisville, KY/Eastern High School), senior attacker Emily Nelson (Deephaven, MN/Holy Family Catholic) and senior midfielder Hannah Sugarman (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) led the way with Albrecht tallying six points and both Nelson and Sugarman amassing five points each. Sugarman also led in the goal department, putting five past the Saints goalkeeper while sophomore defender Jess Morey (Loveland, OH/Loveland) followed close behind with four goals of her own.

In the draw circle, McKendree won all but six draw controls with Rylee Skachenko (Oceanside, CA/Carlsbad) and Sarah Hardin (Pacific, MO/Eureka) coming away with three each, and Nelson controlling nine.

Defensively, the Bearcats caused a total of 13 turnovers while stifiling the Saints to just two shots. Freshman goalkeeper Clara Andrews (St. Louis, MO/Nerinx Hall High School) made one save in the victory.

Women's lacrosse will be back in action this Tuesday, April 30 as they host the first round of the GLIAC tournament, opponent and time still to be determined.
