(LEBANON, Ill., Apr. 30) - The McKendree University women's lacrosse team punched their ticket to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals earlier this Tuesday after dominating the Wildcats of Northern Michigan University by a score of 26-10. The Bearcats will face Grand Valley State this Friday, May 3 on the campus of the University of Indianapolis, the winner moving onto the GLIAC title match.
The Bearcats were the first to score in tuesday's matchup, scoring four unanswered goals within the first five minutes of play. After a few back-and fourth possessions, Northern Michigan was able to get within three of McKendree with the Bearcats leading 9-6. McKendree then proceeded to go on a another four goal run, followed by an additional six unanswered goals until the lead was well within their grasp. Freshman attacker
Kathryn Albrecht (Louisville, KY/Eastern High School) and sophomore midfielder
Rylee Skachenko (Oceanside, CA/Carlsbad) led the Bearcat offense with six goals each, while Albrecht led all Bearcats in points with 11 on the day. Senior attacker
Emily Nelson (Deephaven, MN/Holy Family Catholic) also boasted a eight point day while adding five goals as well.
With the win, McKendree moves to 11-6 overall on the season as they prepare for a rematch of last year's GLIAC semifinals, which saw the Bearcats defeat the Lakers of Grand Valley 27-19. For more information about the GLIAC Championship schedule, click
