(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Apr. 7) - The McKendree University women's lacrosse team was defeated by the twelfth-ranked Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis 22-7 Sunday morning. The Bearcats are now 7-6 overall and 6-3 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.
Despite the defeat McKendree fought valiantly against UIndy, especially in the first half by scoring the first goal of the game off the stick of
Sarah Hardin (Pacific, MO/Eureka) and trailing just four goals at the end of the half. The Bearcats also scored the first goal of the second half, but were unable to recover from a 12 goal run from the Greyhounds, ultimately falling to UIndy for the second time this season. Offensively, freshman attacker
Kathryn Albrecht (Louisville, KY/Eastern High School) led the way for the Bearcats with four goals and one assist, while senior attacker
Emily Nelson (Deephaven, MN/Holy Family Catholic) added two goals as well. Senior midfielder
Hannah Sugarman (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) tallied four caused turnovers and scooped up four ground balls on the defensive side of the field, while freshman goalkeeper
Clara Andrews (St. Louis, MO/Nerinx Hall High School) tallied 11 saves.
McKendree will be back in action next Sunday, April 14 when they take on GLIAC foe Lewis University on Leemon Field.
