(LEBANON, Ill., May 2)--The final weekend of regular-season play for the McKendree University baseball team in 2019 has seen a site change for the Bearcats' Friday doubleheader against Drury University.
The Bearcats and Panthers will play their Friday twinbill on the turf field at the O'Fallon Family Sports Park in nearby O'Fallon, Ill. First pitch will still take place at noon. McKendree and Drury are slated to wrap up the campaign with a Senior Day contest on Saturday at Hypes Field. The Bearcats' 13 senior players will be honored in a special pre-game ceremony prior to the noon first pitch.
McKendree (11-35, 8-22 GLVC) played its final non-conference game of the year on Wednesday in a 3-1 loss at Lindenwood.
Jacob Reinkemeyer (Wildwood, MO/Eureka)Â allowed seven hits and three earned runs in 6 1/3 innings while making the start for the Bearcats. It was the longest outing of Reinkemeyer's McKendree career.
Andrew Aydt (Wildwood, MO/Eureka) and
Adam Cox (Louisville, IL/North Clay) each rapped out two hits against the Lions, while Aydt scored the Bearcats' run in the contest.Â
Bryce Emery (Harrisburg, IL/Harrisburg) enters the final weekend as McKendree's leading hitter with a .333 average.
Hayden Schaefer (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) is also hitting above the .300 mark as he checks in at .312.
Drew Reich (Charlestown, IN/Charlestown) became the first McKendree player to hit at least 10 home runs in the Bearcats' NCAA Division II era with his two-run shot on Saturday at Rockhurst. Reich now has 10 round-trippers in 2019, surpassing the previous mark of nine established by
Grant Anderson (Mackinaw, IL/Deer Creek-Mackinaw) in 2016. Reich also paces the Bearcats with 28 RBI.
Drake Hampton (Godfrey, IL/Alton) holds the team lead in stolen bases with 10, while
Matt Klosterman (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) is just one behind Hampton with nine swipes.Â
Kraig Gielow (Arnold, MO/DeSmet Jesuit), who shares the team lead with two victories on the mounds, leads the McKendree staff in earned-run average at 3.00.
Ryan Vogt (Ava, IL/Trico) has struck out a team-leading 51 batters in just 47 2/3 innings of work, while
Adam Bunnell (Salem, IL/Salem) notched his fourth save in the Bearcats' 4-3 victory in the back end of Saturday's doubleheader at Rockhurst.Â
ABOUT DRURY
The Panthers come to Lebanon with a 26-21 overall and an 18-12 mark against GLVC competition. Drury took two of three games at home last weekend against William Jewell College, winning 4-1 and 9-8 before dropping the final contest by a 3-2 margin.Â
Aaron Mann paces the Panthers' offensive attack with a .342 average to go along with six homers and a team-best 46 RBI. Clayton Engel has belted nine home runs to lead Drury while adding a .324 average and 44 RBI. Ethan Owens, a .317 hitter on the year, has stolen 16 bases to lead all Panther players, while Engel has added 11 steals.Â
On the mound, Kaden Helsel leads the Drury staff with six victories in 16 appearances. Helsel has also fanned a team-high 49 batters in 54 1/3 innings. Tom Tewes is 5-2 in 12 starts with a 4.96 ERA. Alex Austin, who is 3-3 with a 2.81 ERA in a team-leading 23 appearances, has registered three saves on the year.
McKendree won the lone meeting with Drury during the 2018 season. On March 14, 2018 at Hypes Field, the Bearcats edged the Panthers 7-6.
Andrew Aydt (Wildwood, MO/Eureka) homered and drove in two runs, while
Matt Klosterman (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) added three hits and
Levi Brening (Coon Rapids, MN/DuQuoin) also knocked in two runs in the win.Â
