(LEBANON, Ill., June 26)--The McKendree University bass fishing team returned to action recently at the Bassmaster Tour Event held on the St. Lawrence River.
The event featured 149 teams from more than 30 universities and produced the heaviest one-day weight in college history, according to McKendree head coach
Jon Rinderer. In what was without any question the biggest day one ever -- with over 93 percent of the field weighing in a limit (most of which were smallmouth bass) -- there were 738 fish weighed in for a total of 3,031 pounds. This broke the old single-day mark by more than 900 pounds. Day two also broke the old record with 688 bass for 2,425 pounds.
According to Rinderer, what makes this even more incredible is the fact that the previous record was produced by a field of 250 boats. "This is the most incredible fishery I have ever seen," said Rinderer. "All the anglers that were lucky enough to make the trip up to Waddington enjoyed six days of amazing fishing."
All three McKendree teams caught very respectable limits on both days of the tournament.
Jacob Louis (Pinckneyville, IL/Pinckneyville) and
Nate Doty (Decatur, IL/Sangamon Valley) weighed in 23 pounds, four ounces on day one and 19 pounds, two ounces on the second day for a two-day total of 42 pounds, six ounces. That landed the duo in 35th place overall.
Trevor McKinney (Benton, IL/Benton) and
Ethan Jones (Worden, IL/Father McGivney) registered weigh-in totals of 20 pounds, eight ounces and 16 pounds for a combined total of 36 pounds, eight ounces, which was good for 88th place in the event.
Bailey Bleser (Burlington, WI/Catholic Central) and
Joseph Bruener (Douglas, TX/Douglas)Â had weigh-in marks of 18 pounds, three ounces and 17 pounds, eight ounces to take 94th place at 35 pounds, 11 ounces.
Up next for McKendree will be the FLW Regional on the Mississippi River in Wabasha, Wis., on July 19.Â
