GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. – McKendree anglers Evan Sutton and Jaxon Freeman led for the team at the Major League Fishing (MLF) Tournament finishing 26th out of 250 boats on Lake Guntersville this past Friday.
The Major League Fishing (MLF) tournament on Friday hosted 57 colleges at incredible Lake Guntersville. The entire field weighed in a total of 1047 bass for 3317 pounds. The McKendree duo of Evan Sutton and Jaxson Freeman had another great day catching a five bass limit for 19-10 and placed 26th. Jack Stephens and Kai Barnett had a fantastic tourney and were right on their heels with a limit weighing 19-4 good for 31st place. Each of these two outstanding teams have now double qualified for the MLF National Championship. Chase Logue and Mason Darling placed 46th with a limit weighing 18-3 and should qualify for the championship as well. The freshmen team of Owen Sheppard and Dakoda Viley had an awesome first tournament. They completely changed up their game plan on tournament morning and weighed in a very solid limit weighing 16-14 to take 69th place. Connor Hall and KJ Jamison had a good day placing 107th with five for 15-7. Liam Bonnett and Matthew Qualich had another exciting day, finishing one bass short of their limit weighing four bass for 15 pounds and 115th place. Matthew had the third biggest bass of the 1047 caught. It weighed in at 6-7 and was just 5 ounces shy of qualifying for the Heavy Hitters Tournament. Ryan Foster and Henry Fledderman also had a limit weighing in at 14-10 for 125th. Maxwell Trotter and Angelo Malek weighed five for 13-9 and 153rd place. Kyle Hopping and Landon Ingram also had a limit for 12-6 and 165th place. Parker Welch and Owen Vaughn had four bass for 9-13 and 192nd. Brandon Wessel and Jackson Furman placed 194th with four for 9-11.
The team will be hosting two Invitational Tournaments the weekend of October 3rd and 4th. This Saturday they will be on Vandalia Lake, and on Sunday at Lake Springfield.
