(LOUISVILLE, Ken., Sep. 20) – The McKendree University men's soccer team finished in a 1-1 tie against the Knights of Bellarmine University Friday evening and now sits at 1-1-2 overall and 0-0-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
After a scoreless first half, Bellarmine found the back of the net in the 48
th minute and held the lead for almost the entirety of the second half, until
Rulo Arteaga (Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico) netted a header in the 80
th minute courtesy of a
Ryan Herling (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) cross. This sent the match into overtime, where Bellarmine had two scoring opportunities but were stifled by the McKendree defense. Bearcat goaltender Brett Niedzweicki made eight saves in the tying effort.
The men's soccer team will be back in action this Sunday, September 22 at 2:30 p.m. as they take on the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis back on their home turf of Leemon Field.
