(LIBERTY, Mo., Sept. 28) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team dropped its Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) match to William Jewell College, 3-0 on Saturday. The Bearcats are now 5-8 overall on the season and 0-2 in GLVC play.
The Bearcats were missing their lead attacker,
Elle Russell (Festus, MO/St. Pius X), and could not get into a new rhythm to overcome the Cardinals .356 team hitting percentage. William Jewell took the first set, 25-16, the second set, 25-19, and the third set, 25-17 over McKendree.
In the three set match, sophomore middle blocker
Hope Gramly (Prosper, TX/Prosper) recorded 13 kills for the Bearcats' offense while senior outside hitter
Kelly Voss (St. Rose, IL/Mater Dei) and freshman outside hitter
Maddie Misner (Carbondale, IL/Carbondale) each tallied eight.
Defensively, McKendree collected a total of 43 digs as a team with junior setter
Gracie Marr (Castle Rock, CO/Castle View) recording the most with 13. Misner and senior libero
Alissa Zeitelhack (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) also contributed to the Bearcats defense, Misner with nine total digs and Zeitelhack with seven.
McKendree will host its first match next weekend, Oct. 4, against GLVC newcomer Southwest Baptist beginning at 7 p.m.
