Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Correa Scores Twice as Men’s Soccer Defeats Lindenwood 3-2 in Second-Half Shootout

(LEBANON, Ill., Sep. 29) – The McKendree University men's soccer team came out victorious over the visiting Lions of Lindenwood University 3-2 in a match that saw all goals scored in the second half of play, remaining undefeated in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play. The Bearcats are now 4-1-2 overall and 3-0-2 in GLVC competition.

McKendree opened up scoring in the 51st minute, after junior forward Gonzalo Correa (Santiago, Chile/Athletic Study Center) booted a cross from forward James Stone (Eastbourne, England/Bede's Senior School) to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions responded just over ten minutes later to even the score. The final 15 minutes of regulation proved to be the most intense, however, as McKendree would once again take the lead, this time off the foot of James Stone (Eastbourne, England/Bede's Senior School) courtesy of a Karson Huels (Waterlou, Ill.) thru-pass in the 73rd minute. Correa would put the eventual nail in the coffin in the 83rd minute after finishing on a rebound right in front of the goal. Though the Lions would score once more before the end of regulation, it proved to not be enough as the Bearcats walked off with their third conference win of the season.

Overall, McKendree outshot Lindenwood 14 to nine, with nine shots on goal to the Lions' four. Goalkeeper Brett Niedzwiecki (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville High School) made two saves in a winning effort.

The men's soccer program will be back in action this upcoming Friday, October 4 as they travel to Springfield, Missouri to take on Drury University in a GLVC contest.
