(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 22) – The McKendree University men's volleyball team remains undefeated at home with a 3-1 win over Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) opponent Quincy Saturday night. The Bearcats improve to 9-6 overall on the season and 3-2 in MIVA competition.
McKendree had a hard time finding its footing in the first set where Quincy was able to record multiple back-to-back points to take the first set 25-21. From there, the Bearcats improved greatly in the third set to win 25-21. Momentum remained with McKendree as the Bearcats went on to win set three 25-23 and set four 25-21.
Senior middle blocker
Lucas Galifos (Mokena,IL/Lincoln Way East) was the lead offensive player for McKendree recording 13 kills on 21 attempts with just two errors for a .524 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter
Ethan Carroll (Barrington, IL/Barrington) was also an impact player for the Bearcats tallying 13 kills of his own with a .241 hitting percentage.
Defensively, libero
Francisco Comas (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley High School) led the back line with 15 digs on the night with freshman outside hitter
Daniel Kaszuba (Schaumburg, IL/Schamburg High School) close behind with 13 kills on the night. Galifos was also a defensive leader for McKendree at the net collecting one solo block and four block assists. Senior opposite
Zach Schnittker (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) was also a strong blocker for the Bearcats with one solo block and three block assists.
The Bearcats will venture out for a four game road stint starting off at Loyola University Chicago on Feb. 27 with a 7 p.m. game.
