(WASHINGTON, Penn., Feb. 22) – The McKendree University women's water polo team began play in the Washington and Jefferson Invite on Saturday with games against Penn State Behrend and Gannon University. The Bearcats dominated the Lions, winning 28-2 before falling to Gannon Universit, 16-15.
McKendree closes out play in the Washington and Jefferson Invite on Sunday against the Virginia Military Institute and Grove City College.
The Bearcats sit at 3-5 overall and 0-1 in Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) play following the loss to Gannon.
In the game against Penn State Behrend, senior
Brianna Mullalley (Chula Vista, CA/Eastlake High School) led the way with six goals. Junior
Emily Westlove (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central High School), sophomore
Danielle Borelli (Laguna Beach, CA/Laguna Beach High School), freshman
Shoshana Scanlon (Orlando, FL/Olympia High School), and Freshman
Lindy Justice (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada/Vimy Ridge Academy) each found the back of the cage three times. Sophomore
Mikayla Davis (Flower Mound, TX/Flower Mound High School), freshman
Alivia Garcia (Buena Park, CA/Kennedy High School), and freshman
Delaney Hall (Napoleon, OH/Napoleon High School) scored twice for McKendree.
Scanlon and Westlove also helped facilitate the attack, dishing out three assists apiece.
In the cage, sophomore
Isabella Strimling (Brentwood, CA/Heritage High School) made nine saves. She also counted seven assists, a game high and one steal.
Against Gannon, Borelli and sophomore
Maddy Bolton (Alta Loma, CA/Los Osos High School) led the offense, scoring three goals apiece. Westlove chipped in two scores to help the offense. Scanlon, Mullalley, Justice, junior
