Four Bearcats Tally Double-Digit Points In Close 74-71 Loss to Indianapolis

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Feb. 27) – The McKendree University women's basketball team fell to the University of Indianapolis in a close road contest 74-71. The Bearcats are now 12-15 overall on the season and 5-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

The Bearcats sprang to an early lead over the Greyhounds in the first quarter shooting 50 percent from field goal range. Indianapolis answered back and were able to regain the lead heading into halftime, 36-29. McKendree outscored the Greyhounds in the second half, tallying 21 points in both the third and fourth quarters but Indianapolis was able to hold on and collect a 74-71 win.

Four Bearcats earned double-digit points in the game with senior guard Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) leading the way with 16 points on the night. Senior forward Megan Jensen (Union, MO/Saint Francis Borgia Regional) was next for the Bearcats with 15 points, junior guard Callie Pohlman (Appleton, WI/Appleton North) put up 14 points for McKendree, and senior guard Madison Hart (Oak Creek, WI/Oak Creek) rounded out the scoring efforts for the Bearcats with 13 points in the game.

Hart was able to collect her ninth double-double of the season with her 13 rebounds to lead McKendree in rebounding. Jensen and senior forward Brianna Johnson (Lodi, WI/Beaver Dam) were also strong rebounders for the Bearcats, each with five rebounds on the night.

The Bearcats and the Greyhounds tallied near identical team stat lines that brought this game to such a close score at the end. McKendree scored 20 points off of turnovers while UIndy scored 22. The Bearcats then capitalized on second chance opportunities to score 13 points while Indianapolis collected 15. To round out the team stats, McKendree earned 15 fast break points while the Greyhounds tallied 17.

McKendree will close out the 2019-20 regular season with a game at Bellarmine University on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 1 p.m. ET in Louisville, Ky.
