Women’s Lacrosse Drops OT Thriller to Findlay 12-11

(LEBANON, Ill., Mar.4) – The McKendree University women's lacrosse fell in overtime to the visiting Oilers of the University of Findlay by a score of 12-11. The Bearcats are now 2-2 on the year as they head into their spring break road trip beginning this upcoming weekend.

The contest proved to be a back-and-forth affair for the entirety of the 60 minutes of regulation with a three-goal differential being the highest of the game, though Findlay held a 11-9 lead over McKendree with 12 minutes remaining in regulation. The Bearcats were able to claw their way back with two goals from junior Sarah Hardin (Pacific, MO/Eureka), as well as a low-angle goal from senior Kayla Smith (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township) that snuck past the left post with just nine seconds remaining on the clock. In overtime, McKendree had the first opportunity to put the game away as Hardin was awarded a free position shot from the eight-meter arc, though her shot just grazed the foot of the Findlay keeper whose defender was able to clear the ball into the McKendree defensive zone. The Oilers were able to capitalize on an offensive attempt, putting the game away at 12-11.

Smith, Hardin, and Rylee Skachenko (Oceanside, CA/Carlsbad) all finished with three goals apiece with Smith leading all McKendree scorers with four points as she also added an assist. Midfielder Jess Morey (Loveland, OH/Loveland) also got into the mix with two goals and one assist.

Women's lacrosse will be back in action this upcoming Sunday, March 8 as they travel to the campus of the University of Indianapolis to take on Colorado State University – Pueblo at 11:00 a.m.
