Women’s Lacrosse Edges CSU Pueblo 17-16 in Comeback Victory

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Mar.8) – The McKendree University women's lacrosse bested the Thunderwolves of Colorado State University – Pueblo by a score of 17-16 this Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats improve to 3-2 on the year with the victory.

Though McKendree put the first three goals on the board, they soon fell into a deficit as Pueblo would add seven goals nearly unanswered, with midfielder Rylee Skachenko (Oceanside, CA/Carlsbad) cutting into the CSU lead with a goal of her own. The Bearcats came back before the end of the first have with a few goals, resulting in a 8-7 Thunderwolves lead heading into halftime. The Bearcats would not be stopped in the second half, though, scoring nine straight goals and building the momentum that would bring them to a 17-16 victory.

Offensively McKendree was led by the quartet of Sarah Hardin (Pacific, MO/Eureka), Kayla Smith (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township), Rylee Skachenko (Oceanside, CA/Carlsbad), and Kathryn Albrecht (Louisville, KY/Eastern High School) who totaled for 16 of the Bearcats' 17 goals, with Hardin leading in goals with five and Smith leading in total points with nine. Goaltenders Clara Andrews (St. Louis, MO/Nerinx Hall High School) and Colin Patton combined for 16 saves between the pipes as well.

The Bearcats will be back in action this Tuesday, March 10 as they travel to North Canton, Ohio to take on Walsh University at 3:00 p.m.
