Jared Timmerman (New Baden, IL/Wesclin) was recognized as one of 16 baseball student-athletes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference to be honored for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award. The conference announced the list of honorees Monday.

James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Awards are given each year to the institutions and student-athletes who actively demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship, character, and conduct during competition throughout the year. Individual award winners are selected from each institution's list of nominees compiled by each sport's head coaches.
Timmerman has been part of the Bearcats for two seasons. In this shortened 2020 season, he made four starts in four appearances on the mound. Timmerman posted a 1-2 record with a 5.56 ERA, while leading the bullpen with 26 strikeouts for 22 2/3 innings pitched. He hit a season-high strikeouts per game, retiring eight batters on three separate occasions.
Timmerman picked up his win of the season on Feb. 29 against Hillsdale College. In the first of the three-game series, Timmerman pitched a total 5.1 innings where he retired eight batters and allowed only three runs. The Bearcats took the first two games (8-5 and 10-4) and won the series at home.
The Bearcats finished the season with a 6-9 record (2-1 in GLVC) after the season was cut short on Mar. 12.
