Men's Soccer Rides Five-Game Streak into Weekend Slate

Bearcats head to Missouri S&T and Drury for matchups

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's soccer is back out on the road for a weekend slate of Great Lakes Valley Conference matchups with Missouri S&T and Drury. The Bearcats enter the weekend with an undefeated streak of six matches and a winning streak of five matches. 

The Bearcats have won five-straight games dating back to September 26 against Illinois Springfield, where they beat the Prairie Stars 1-0 in regulation. The unbeaten streak dates back one more match, to September 24 against Quincy, where McKendree played the Hawks to a double-overtime draw. In the winning streak, McKendree has also recorded victories at William Jewel (5-2), at Truman State (2-1 2OT), versus Southwest Baptist (3-1), and versus Rockhurst (2-0). 

During the winning streak, senior forwards James Stone and Gonzalo Correa have led the offensive efforts with seven points, three goals, and one assist each. Stone has collected two game-winning goals while Correa has fired one. Senior midfielder Diego Tapia-Fraites and junior defender Cole Gerstenberger both own four points to follow Stone and Correa, as each own two goals in the five victories. 11 Bearcats have collected at least two points during the winning streak while seven of the point-scorers have fired a goal in the same period. Senior keeper Alvaro Cortazar has held the net over the win streak, and all season, with 470 minutes, collecting 21 saves and a goals allowed average of 0.77. 

In the GLVC, the Bearcats are tied for first overall with Indianapolis, owning 19 points this season. McKendree also owns the longest win-streak in the conference at five games. The senior Stone ranks first in the conference in goals with eight and second in points with 17 (1.55 per game). Stone is also tied for first in game-winning scores with three over 11 games this year. Two Bearcats rank highly in assists in the league during the fall so far with freshman midfielder Philipp Schmidt and senior midfielder Eddie Davis both dishing-out four.

At Missouri S&T
The Miners enter the weekend with a 5-4-1 season record and a 4-31- GLVC mark but have dropped their latest two contests. The all-time record between McKendree and Missouri S&T is owned by the Miners at 5-3-1 but the Bearcats have won the last three matchups. 

This season, the Miners' attack has been led by midfielder Sigurd Semlitsch, who owns two goals and two assists for six points. He is followed by forwards Luan Barbosa and Leyton Harper, who have both recorded four points this fall. Barbosa has netted two goals while Harper has dished out two assist and scored once. 

At Drury
The Panthers will enter the weekend with a 5-4-2 overall record and will take on Southern Indiana on Friday before hosting McKendree. In the GLVC, the Panthers are 5-1-2 and went 1-0-1 in the latest weekend out. Drury has been led offensively by forward Jamie O'Brien who has collected 12 points on six goals scored. Midfielder Adem Hamdaoua is second on the Panthers with nine points behind four goals and one assist.
