Men's Soccer Earns Sixth-Straight Victory

Correa scores equalizer, own goal propels Bearcats to win

ROLLA, Mo. - McKendree University men's soccer collected a sixth-straight victory behind an equalizing goal and a double-overtime own goal by the Miners. WIth the win, the Bearcats remain tied with UIndy at the top of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

McKendree won a sixth-straight game this season behind a fifth score of the fall from senior forward Gonzalo Correa, which marked the equalizer for the Bearcats, Prior to the equalizer by the Bearcats, the Miners took the lead in the 68th minute behind a penalty kick goal from Luan Barbosa. 

The match went into overtime with no teams scoring the golden goal over the first ten minutes of extra time. Just over two minutes into the second overtime period, the Bearcats made a run towards the Miners' back line and goal with senior James Stone leading firing the ball towards the opposite side post but it was intercepted by the Miners' defender. The S&T defender who intercepted the cross ball from Stone accidentally redirected the ball into the net, clinching the match for the Bearcats. 

Senior goalkeeper Alvaro Cortazar recorded full time in the net for McKendree with three saves and one goal allowed. The win for Cortazar was his seventh this fall as the Paraguay-native nows owns a record of 7-2-3 this year.

NOTES:
McKendree earned its sixth-straight win and remains tied for the lead in the GLVC with UIndy this fall. Both programs have amassed 22 points on the season in conference. 

Senior forward Gonzalo Correa scored his fifth goal of the fall in the victory. Correa's goal in the 79th minute was the equalizer for the Bearcats, forcing overtime.

Senior goalkeeper Alvaro Cortazar earned his seventh win in the outing and has recorded full-time (1191 minutes) in the net for McKendree this year.
