Men's Soccer Has Six-Match Win Streak Snapped

The Bearcats drop match to Drury, 2-1; Sit t-4th in GLVC

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - McKendree University men's soccer dropped its first match since September 19 on Sunday afternoon, losing 1-2 against the Drury Panthers. With the loss, McKendree drops into a tie for fourth place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings with 22 points on the fall.

The Bearcats out-shot the Panthers and earned seven corners compared to Drury's zero but were unable to convert on the attempts. The Panthers fired one goal in each half in the match, breaking the null-to-null contest in the 27th minute. Drury led 1-0 at the half and then struck seven minutes into the second period with an unassisted goal. 

McKendree cut the leda in half but it marked their only score of the match in the 61st minute. The lone Bearcats goal was scored by freshman forward Findlay Cook, marking his first collegiate score and was assisted by senior midfielder Hampus Filipsson. The assist was Filipsson's first point of the fall. 

The remaining 29 minutes of action resulted in no scores by either team, giving the victory to the Panthers and pushed the Bearcats into a tie for fourth place in the conference standings.

The goal was guarded by senior keeper Alvaro Cortazar, who tallied two saves in another full-time match. 

NOTES:
McKendree had it six-match winning streak snapped in the road match. THe streak dated back to its matchup with Illinois Springfield on Septmeber 26. 

Freshman forward Findlay Cook (Glasgow, Scotland) recorded his first collegiate goal in the loss, scoring in the 61st minute. He previously owned one point with an assist earlier in the season. 

Senior midfielder Hampus Filipsson collected the first point of his season in the road match, assisting on Cook's score. 

UP NEXT:
McKendree men's soccer has three matches remaining in the regular season before the GLVC Tournament in November. 

The next matches for the Bearcats will be on October 22 against Lindenwood at 7:30 P.M. and October 24 against Maryville at 2:30 P.M.
