SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - McKendree University women's soccer played to a double-overtime draw against Great Lakes Valley Conference leader Drury on Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats own 23 points this season and trail by only two points to the league-leading Panthers.
McKendree earned a third draw of the season in the Sunday match and earned one points towards its standing in the process. The Bearcats recovered from the October 15 setback against the Miners with a point tacked onto their season total against Drury. In the matchup with the Panthers, it was a battle of the fall's GLVC leaders with Drury marking the first opponent to out-shoot the Bearcats this year. Corner totals were dead-even at five for both Drury and McKendree.
The Panthers kicked off the match early with a goal in the 14th minute following a McKendree free kick, which the Panthers parlayed into a breakaway. Drury sent a cross between defenders to fire into the net.
The equalizer for the Bearcats came in the early moments of the second half with a goal from sophomore midfielder
Destiny Johnson. Johnson was positioned just outside the six-yard box for the corner from freshman defender
Kathleen Kenny. Kenny fired the corner kick, grazing the heads of two other Bearcats prior to Johnson striking the ball past the Panther keeper.
The remainder of regulation led to no scores for the GLVC-leaders, and forced overtime, which led to three shots for each team but no scores.
McKendree senior goalkeeper
Mercedes King marked another full-time match and collected a career-high at McKendree with eight saves.
