LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University women's volleyball dropped a match at Melvin Price Convocation on Saturday afternoon to Southern Indiana in straight-sets.
The Bearcats began slowly in the Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown with the Screaming Eagles, going down 0-6, forcing a timeout early in the first set. Sophomore outside hitter
Colleen Preusser and junior outside hitter
Maddie Misner both blasted four kills in the first set of the outing. Five Bearcats collected at least one kill in the first set while junior setter
Macy Tongate dished-out seven assists during the 19-25 dropped set.
During set two, McKendree shot out to a 3-1 lead early on and kept the Eagles at bay until the 29th point of the set. Southern Indiana finished off the second set with extremely strong play, winning 10 of the final 13 points in the set. Sophomore outside hitter
Brianna Binder led the Bearcats' offense in the dropped set with three kills while Preusser and Misner both added two.
The third and final set of the afternoon contest was a hard fought final for the Bearcats, ending 23-25. Junior middle blocker
Claire Diercks recorded five kills to lead the offense for McKendree while the sophomore Binder added four to the efforts of the Bearcats. Tongate sent out 11 more assists in the set.
The sophomore duo Binder and Preusser collected eight kills each to lead the attack efforts of McKendree. Binder laid out for 12 digs while Preusser added four. Preusser led the team in points with 11 with her kills total, also adding two block assists and two service aces. Dierks and Misner each recorded seven kills during the three-set loss. Diercks led the block-effort with three in the match.
McKendree dropped to 2-8 in the GLVC in the fall with the loss and 6-15 on the season.

McKendree women's volleyball will be back in action on October 29 and 30 at Melvin Price Convocation Center. The Bearcats first matchup of the week will be Missouri S&T on Friday, OCtober 29, at 7 P.M. before hosting William Jewell on Saturday afternoon.
