Ross Scores Her First of the Fall, Women's Soccer Takes Fourth-Straight Match

Senior Riley Ross scored in the 74th minute off a pass from Kathleen Kenny to score game-winner

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - McKendree University women's soccer won its fourth-straight match with the 1-0 win over Truman State. Senior midfielder Riley Ross recorded her first goal of the year off a free kick by freshman defender Kathleen Kenny, which clinched the victory for the Bearcats.

McKendree earned its fourth win in a row, dating back to September 24. In the span, the Bearcats have out-scored their opponents seven to three while out-shooting the opposing offenses 64-22 with 36 of the attempts going on-frame. Seven separate Bearcats recorded at least one point in the streak, with five players scoring a goal.

The match with Truman was tightly contested for the full 90 minutes of regulation with Truman pressing the Bearcats hard in the first half. The Bulldogs were one of few teams to out-shoot the Bearcats on the year with a nine to eight advantage in the match but McKendree put more shots on goal than the opposing force, four to three, and recorded more corner kicks, five to three. Six Bearcats fired shots at the opposing defense with Ross leading the way with three and two shots on goal.

The Bearcat-Bulldog stalemate was stricken down in the 74th minute via the senior midfielder Ross, who recorded her first goal of the fall in a crucial moment. Ross' first score of the season was off of a free kick by the freshman defender Kenny from beyond the 18-yard box. Kenny's assist marked the first assist and point of her collegiate career.

Senior keeper Mercedes King added her second clean sheet of the season in the win, collecting three saves enroute to her fourth win.

McKendree closed out the match through the redirection of the Bulldogs' attack attempts, holding out for the victory.

NOTES:
McKendree extended a season win streak to four matches with the 1-0 win over TSU. The Bearcats have out-performed opposing teams in the majority of categories during that stretch, including goals (7 to 3), shots/shots on goal (64/36 to 22/6), and corner kicks (31 to 7).

Senior midfielder Riley Ross (Springfield, Illinois) recorded her first goal of the fall following a free kick by Kenny. She is now one of nine Bearcats to score a goal this season.

Freshman defender Kathleen Kenny (Wildwood, Missouri) collected her first collegiate assist and point in the victory. The assis came off of a free kick from just beyond the 18-yard box in the 74th minute, which set up Ross for the game-winning goal.

Senior goalkeeper Mercedes King (Troy, Illinois) added a second clean sheet to her resume this year with three saves, contributing to her fourth victory in goal this year. She remains unbeaten on the season with a 4-0-1 record.
