BOLIVAR, Mo. | Kansas City, Mo. - McKendree University women's volleyball dropped a pair of matches on October 8 and 9 to Southwest Baptist and Rockhurst. The Bearcats lost their matchup with the Bearcats of SBU in five sets on Friday evening while the Hawks beat McKendree in three-straight sets on Saturday afternoon.
At Southwest Baptist:
After the first set, which was won by Southwest Baptist, McKendree collected two straight set victories to take the lead overall in the contest. The Bearcats of SBU stormed back to win the match in the fifth set after losing the overall lead.
The five-set outing was headlined by sophomore outside hitters
Colleen Preusser and
Brianna Binder, who both amassed a double-double in the loss. Preusser led the attack with a total of 13 kills and 14 points and one service ace while laying out for a career-high of 20 digs. Binder went for 11 kills in the match to pair with 10 digs, totaling 11 points.
Sophomore middle blocker
Lauren McCurley recorded career-highs in kills (10), points (13.5), and blocks (4) in the five-set loss. McCurley hit at a team-high of .429 in the match.
This was McKendree's first loss to Southwest Baptist in the all-time series.
At Rockhurst:
The Bearcats struggled to get their offense moving forward in the match with the Hawks, hitting .125 and a total of 31 kills. Binder collected nine kills in the match to lead McKendree on offense. She also added four blocks to total 11 points on a .192 hitting percentage.
Three Bearcats recordes six points to follow Binder while junior setter
Macy Tongate dished out 25 assists in the three-set loss.
NOTES:
Sophomore middle blocker
Lauren McCurley marked career-highs with 10 kills, four blocks and 13.5 points against Southwest Baptist. It was her first double-digit kill and point match of her collegiate career.
Sophomore outside hitters
Brianna Binder and
Colleen Preusser both made massive impacts in the contest at SBU with a double-double each. It was both Binder's and Preusser's sixth double-double of the fall.
