LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University's women's volleyball team battled hard against #20 Lewis with Lewis walking away with a 3-0 win.
The Bearcats battled valiantly against a tough opponent in the Flyers, who have already clinched the number one seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament, as Lewis won 25-20, 25-11, 25-22.
The Bearcats offense hit .106 for the match compared to the Flyers .287 hitting percentage. Offensively, the Bearcats were led by sophomore outside/opposite hitter Colleen Preusser (St. Charles, Mo./Lutheran) as she had nine kills for the match. Junior outside hitter Maddie Misner (Makanda, Ill./Carbondale) added eight kills while sophomore outside hitter Brianna Binder (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge) added seven kills. For the match the Bearcats had 32 kills and freshman setter Catie Shane (Evansville, Ind./Francis J. Reitz) assisted on 24 of those 32 kills. The Bearcats had eight players record a kill against Lewis.
Defensively McKendree had three players reach double figures in digs as Misner led the way with a team-high 17 digs. Freshman libero Keely Davis (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North Vigo) added 12 digs. The last Bearcat to reach double figures was Preusser as she added 11 digs.
Lewis was led by Ava Venema as she had 14 kills on a .520 hitting percentage. Lauren Stenman assisted on 31 of the 45 kills that Lewis recorded as a team. Jamie Poppen recorded a third of the digs that Lewis collected with her game-high 20 digs.
The Bearcats are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. against the Prairie Stars of Illinois-Springfield. Before the game the Bearcats will honor their lone senior McKenna Ross (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek).
