LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University's women's basketball team concludes its three games in six days portion of the schedule to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a game against Lewis University on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
Saturday's game will mark the Bearcats third of 20 games in GLVC play and it will also mark their GLVC home opener.
McKendree comes into play with a 1-6 record and 0-2 in GLVC play while Lewis comes into play with a 1-6 record and 0-1 in GLVC play.
ABOUT THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats are led offensively by sophomore guard Christy Fortune (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West), who is averaging 15.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and is shooting 52.5 percent from the field through the first seven games. Fortune is also shooting 51.4 percent from behind the 3-point line and 73.3 percent at the free throw line. Over her last three games she has scored 55 points while grabbing 28 rebounds.
In addition to Fortune, the second Bearcat averaging double-figures is second-year freshman Clare Breden (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville Community), as she is averaging 10.7 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 39.7 percent from the field, 34.6 percent from three and 70.6 percent at the free throw line.
As a team the Bearcats average 51.6 points on offense while allowing 73.1 points per game while shooting 35.7 percent from the field, 35 percent from three and 68 percent at the free throw line on the season. McKendree is being outrebounded by 10.1 rebounds and averaging 10.4 assists and 7.1 steals per game.
ABOUT THE FLYERS
Lewis comes into the game after falling at Indianapolis in their GLVC home opener.
Leading the way offensively for the Flyers is Lily Courier who is averaging 15.7 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 68 percent from the field and 76.5 percent at the free throw line.
The next leading scorer is Kathryn Schmidt as she averages 15.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting 45.2 percent from the field, 34.6 percent from the 3-point line and 88 percent at the free throw line.
Grace Hilber is averaging 14.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from the 3-point line and 80 percent at the free throw line.
The last Flyer, averaging double-digits is Jenna Badali who is averaging 11.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
For the season, the Flyers are shooting 41 percent from the field, 35.5 from the 3-point line, and 73.9 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers are being outrebounded by nine rebounds and they average 12 assists and 8.9 steals per game.
