(LEBANON, Ill. – Feb.12) – The McKendree University men's volleyball team played the first of two games against Ohio State University Friday evening. The Bearcats dropped the first set but won the next three to upset the Buckeyes. With the win McKendree improves to 4-0 and 3-0 in MIVA play.
The Bearcats exchanged points with the Buckeyes in the first set, but the momentum came in favor of the visitors. Ohio State would take the first set 25-22. The determination to not give up free points and a late-set momentum change for the Bearcats, would win them the second set 26-24. McKendree nearly doubled the hitting percentage of Ohio State in the third set, and took the 25-18 win. The same high-intensity energy flowed into the fourth set, where McKendree forced Ohio State to commit a game-high seven errors. McKendree would take the final set 25-15, and the 3-1 set win.
McKendree finished the game with a .396 hitting percentage and 48 total kills.
Patrick Ross (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) led the team with 16 kills and also pitched in three service aces, and two assists on the night. Both
Ryan Serrano (Phoenix, AZ/Boulder Creek) and
Lucas Galifos (Mokena,IL/Lincoln Way East) had five blocks on the night. Serrano would add 37 assists and two service aces.
Francisco Comas (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) continued to lead the defense with eight digs.
Nickie Sanlin's and her team will hit the court for its second matchup with the Ohio State University on Saturday, Feb. 13. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center.
