(LEBANON, Ill. – Feb. 13) – The McKendree University men's volleyball team played their second matchup of the weekend with No.14 Ohio State University Saturday night. The Bearcats dropped the first set, but came back to sweep the next three to upset the Buckeyes. The Bearcats improve to 5-0 (4-0 in MIVA) after the 3-1 match win.
The Ohio State University looked to take revenge on McKendree in the first set. The Buckeyes came out with the energy and an explosive offense to take the first set 25-17. McKendree and Ohio would go back-and-forth for a majority of the second set, and protect the serve by
Tyler Poulsen (Gilbert, AZ/Campo Verde) to put them ahead by six. A kill from the middle would give McKendree the second set 25-20. The third set belonged to McKendree, picking up their stride for the 25-20 win. The fourth set was not very clean volleyball, but the Bearcats played a long grueling match, and stayed their course for the 25-22 set win.
McKendree finished the game with a .296 hitting percentage and 39 kills.
Ethan Carroll (Barrington, IL/Barrington) led the way for his team with 12 kills, while adding three blocks and one assist.
