(LEBANON, Ill. – Feb. 18) – The No.14 McKendree University men's volleyball team had their first of two matchups with Quincy, Thursday evening. The Bearcats improve to 6-0 (5-0 in MIVA) after defeating Quincy 3-1.
McKendree started off the first set well, going on a four-point service run by
Patrick Ross (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) to establish an early lead. Quincy would fight back every possession, but McKendree would take the first set 25-23. McKendree came out swinging in the second set, with a nearly .400 hitting percentage. The Bearcats would take the second set 25-21. Quincy's defense won them the third set, along with their first lead of the match early in the set. Quincy would take the third set 25-23. McKendree carved an early lead into the fourth set, and never looked back. With the help of a .483 hitting percentage and dominating net presence, the Bearcats took the final set 25-22, and the match 3-1.
McKendree produced a .290 hitting percentage on the night with 57 total kills.
Lucas Galifos (Mokena,IL/Lincoln Way East) had a heavy net presence, leading his team with 13 kills and four blocks.
Zach Schnittker (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) added 10 kills on the night, and led with three service aces.
Ryan Serrano (Phoenix, AZ/Boulder Creek) recorded 47 assists with the addition of seven digs and one service ace.
Francisco Comas (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) led the defense with 10 digs in addition to three assists.
Nickie Sanlin and her team will hit the court for their second matchup with Quincy on Friday, Feb. 19. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center.
