Box Score (Cleveland, Tenn. Feb 13)- The McKendree University women's lacrosse team opened its season with an 11-10 victory in overtime against Lee University.
The Bearcats got off to a hot start, with senior
Rylee Skachenko (Oceanside, CA/Carlsbad) scoring back to back goals in the first five minutes of play and added a third with 12:20 left in the half. Senior
Jess Morey (Loveland, OH/Loveland) followed up with her two goals with with less than 10 minutes in the half, giving the Bearcats a 6-3.
Skachenko struck first for the Bearcats in the second half, scoring off an assist from sophomore
Sydney Tiemann (Eureka, MO/Eureka) 11 minutes into the half. Hardin and Tiemann found the back of the with 11- and four-minutes left.
Lee scored a tying goal with 14 seconds left to force the extra period. But with 1:50 left senior
Sarah Hardin (Pacific, MO/Eureka) would seal with victory for the Bearcats with an unassisted goal.
Hardin had two goals on the afternoon, including the game winner at the 3:10 in overtime.
The Bearcats were led by Skachenko, who had five goals on seven shots on the afternoon.
Morey and Tiemann each added two goals and junior
Kathryn Albrecht (Louisville, KY/Eastern) contributed four assists.
The Bearcats face off against Young Harris College tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in Cleveland, Tennessee.
