(LEBANON, Ill. – Feb. 15) – The McKendree University women's basketball team has three days of competition coming up this week. The Bearcats will host the University of Illinois-Springfield on Tuesday, Feb. 16. They will then hit the road to Maryville on Thursday, Feb. 18. They will end their week at Lindenwood on Saturday, Feb. 20.
Kari Kerkhoff's team is coming off an 86-81 win over Missouri S&T Saturday afternoon, and improved to 7-11 (7-1 in GLVC). In the game, junior
Sydney Diekhoff (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community) recorded her 1,000
th career point as a Bearcat, and led the team with 27 points on the afternoon. The Bearcats held the lead for all but 23 seconds of the game, outscoring the Miners 26-15 in the first quarter. Heading into this week, McKendree is averaging 42.4 percent from the field, 32.2 percent from the arc, and 71.2 percent from the free throw line, while just 3.5 points behind their opponent.
About University of Illinois-Springfield (UIS)
UIS is entering this matchup with an 8-8 (8-8 in GLVC) record. Their 61-71 loss to William Jewell College snapped a two-game winning streak for the Prairie Stars. UIS went back-and-forth with the Cardinals, holding onto a two-point lead heading into halftime. the Cardinals would built up to a double-digit lead in the final frame, and would ultimately be the Prairie Star's deficit. Maryville recorded the season-sweep over Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and city-rival University pf Missouri-St. Louis, 73-70. The Saints enter this week of competition with a 9-9 (9-9 in GLVC) record. Out of halftime, the Saints scored the first eight points to regain the lead, and shot 63.6 percent for the remainder of the competition. A last three-point attempt from the Tritons with 3.2 second left did not fall, and the Saints sealed the win. The Saints are averaging 42.9 percent from the field, 33.5 percent from the arc, and 72.8 percent from the line. All with a 2.7 points margin over their opponent.
