Diekhoff Scores Season High as Bearcats Fall Short

(Saint Louis, MO-Feb 18)- The McKendree University women's basketball team fell to Maryville Thursday night by a score of 87-84. McKendree is now 8-12 on the season. 
 
How it Happened
 
The Bearcats shot efficiently from the field to start the contest, shooting 56.3 percent from the field on 9-of-16 from the field and 60 percent from deep on 3-of-5 attempts. The Bearcats continued their efficient play and closed the gap in the second quarter, connecting on 61.1 percent of their field goals attempts on 11-of-18 from the field. Junior guard Sydney Diekhoff (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community) paced the Bearcats in the half, recording 17 points.
 
McKendree continued to play the Saints close as the second half progressed, shooting 8-for-17 in the third quarter, as the Bearcats closed the gap at the end of the third quarter to a one point after freshman Lauren Stolzman (Husdon, WI/Hudson) drained a jumper with three seconds left in the quarter. Throughout the fourth quarter, the Bearcats continued to fight with a pair threes in the last 30 seconds by Diekhoff and junior guard Jenna Krause (Seymour, WI/Seymour), but came up short as time expired.

- Diekhoff finished the game with a season-high 30 points on 12-of-23 shooting while converting on 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. 
- Junior forward Erin Stroberg (Rockford, IL/Rockford East) finished with a season-high 13 rebounds to go along with six points on the evening.
- The Bearcats generated 23 points off the bench as well as rack up 22 assists, with nine of those coming from senior guard Callie Pohlman (Appleton, WI/Appleton North).
