(LEBANON, Ill. – Feb. 20) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team hosted its first GLVC Triangular of the season, taking on Quincy in the first game of the afternoon. The Bearcats improve to 1-4 (1-4 in GLVC) after defeating Quincy 3-1.
McKendree put up a huge net presence in the first set, tallying 12 blocks and four coming from
Hope Gramly (Prosper, TX/Prosper). Backed by efficient hitting and solid defense, the Bearcats would take the set 25-18. The Hawks fought back hard in the second set, going back-and-forth with the Bearcats. A solid kill would give Quincy the second set 29-27. The Bearcats brought the third set with the same intensity as the beginning of the match. A service run from
Brianna Binder (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) would put her team ahead, and hold that lead for the remainder of the set. A hitting error from the Hawks would give the Bearcats the third set, 25-20. McKendree raced out early in the fourth set to a 10-2 lead and never looked back. The Bearcats would take the fourth set 25-16, and the match 3-1 for their first win of the season.
McKendree produced a .264 hitting percentage with 60 kills.
Elle Russell (Festus, MO/St. Pius X) led her team offensively with 16 kills.
Brianna Binder (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) would add 12 kills and led with two service aces.
Hope Gramly (Prosper, TX/Prosper) ran the net with 12 blocks and added in 14 kills.
Amanda Tippett (Forestill, MO/St. Dominic) controlled the back row, recording 23 digs, and adding two assists.
Nickie Sanlin's team will be back on the court later tonight to face William Jewell College. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
