(ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Feb. 6) – The McKendree University men's volleyball team had their second matchup of the weekend, at Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) rival Lindenwood. The Bearcats advance to 3-0 (2-0 in MIVA) after sweeping Lindenwood in three sets.
The second matchup between McKendree and Lindenwood saw longer rallies and closer set scores. In the final points of the first set, the Bearcats would take a timeout to try and break the rhythm Lindenwood got into with back-to-back kills. A kill by
Lucas Galifos (Mokena,IL/Lincoln Way East) would mark the first set to McKendree, 25-23. Lindenwood came out strong in the second set, putting up a strong block. The battle for the lead between McKendree and Lindenwood was differentiated by one point for a majority of the second set. A double block by
Ryan Serrano (Phoenix, AZ/Boulder Creek) and Galifos would mark the second set for their team, 25-19. There was no shortage of long rallies and back-and-forth between these two teams in the final set. A quick set to Galifos in the middle would put the game away for McKendree, 25-18. This would secure the three-match sweep and third-consecutive win for the Bearcats.
McKendree recorded a .217 hitting percentage with 31 kills.
Ethan Carroll (Barrington, IL/Barrington) led his team with nine kills, along with four assists.
Zach Schnittker (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) had two service aces, along with four digs, and three blocks.
Tommy McGrath (Paradise Valley, AZ/Brophy College Prep) led his team with seven blocks.
Ryan Serrano (Phoenix, AZ/Boulder Creek) led both teams with 11 digs, and added 26 assists.
Nickie Sanlin and her team will be back in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center for their two-game matchup with Ohio State University. The first serve is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 PM.
