Women's Volleyball Falls to Lewis

(ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Feb. 6) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team had their second game of the weekend, visiting Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) rival Lewis University. The Bearcats move to 0-2 (0-2 in GLVC) after falling in three close sets to Lewis.

McKendree battled with Lewis in the first set, getting up by two early on but Lewis would counter with an 8-2 run. The Bearcats got as close as five with the Flyers, but fell in the first set 18-25. The second set began how McKendree originally wanted the game to start, with high intensity and Lewis unable to answer an early 4-0 run. Lewis would capitalize on the opportunity from a McKendree service error, and close out the set on an eight-point run. McKendree would fall in the second set 18-25. McKendree played much cleaner volleyball, keeping the game close for a majority of the third set. Lewis would go on a 6-2 run to take a six-point lead, but the Bearcats would counter with their own run and cut their deficit to two. The Bearcats would score one more time in the final six points of the game, and fall 19-25.

McKendree produced a .094 hitting percentage in the matchup with 29 kills. Elle Russell (Festus, MO/St. Pius X) led her team with nine kills and added four digs. Brianna Binder (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) recorded seven kills and led her team with 10 digs. Gracie Marr (Castle Rock, CO/Castle View) had the only service ace for the Bearcats and led with 14 assists, while Alexandria Muschong (Woodstock, IL/Woodstock) had the single block of the afternoon.

McKendree will face the University of Indianapolis on Friday, Feb. 12 for their season home-opener. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 PM in the Harry M. Statham Sports Center.
