The McKendree University women's lacrosse team suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Regis University Monday night by a final score of 17-8.
How it Happened
McKendree jumped out to a three-goal lead early in the first half behind a goal from senior
Jess Morey (Loveland, OH/Loveland) and pair of goals from sophomore
Sydney Tiemann (Eureka, MO/Eureka).
Regis would respond with six unanswered goals before graduate student
Kayla Smith (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township) stopped the Warriors run, bringing the score to 6-4. The Bearcats would get two more goals from senior
Rylee Skachenko (Oceanside, CA/Carlsbad) and Morey to bring the score to 10-6 going into the half.
The second half would see Regis extend its lead and not look back. Junior
Kathryn Albrecht (Louisville, KY/Eastern) got the Bearcats on the board early in the half. The Warriors offense was too much for the Bearcats, who broke the game open after scoring another six unanswered goals, bringing the lead to 17-7.
