Men's Soccer Looks for Back-to-Back Wins in Lewis Match, Host No.2 UIndy on Sunday

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's soccer is back on the road on Friday night to take on Lewis in Romeoville. The Bearcats will return to Leemon Field for a tough matchup with the number two team in the nation, University of Indianapolis Greyhounds.

Lewis welcomes McKendree to their home turf with a 3-0-1 record, most recently beating Lindenwood in its opening GLVC match. The Flyers have been led on offense by Baumann, who has collected four goals (8 total points) and is followed by Mwanga, who has totaled six points on four assists and a goal for Lewis. The net has been guarded by two Flyers over the first four matches for Lewis, Doppelhofer and Maurice through four games. The two own a combined goals allowed average of 1.42 over 380 minutes. 

The Bearcats nabbed their first win of the season against Southern Indiana (9/12/2021) behind a goal from senior forward James Stone, the goal was assisted on by freshman midfielder Philipp Schmidt and freshman forward Findlay Cook. Prior to the first win of the year for McKendree, the Bearcats played their first two matches to a draw with Ashland and Ohio Dominican. Stone leads the team with fours points while senior midfielder Eddie Davis has collected three points with one goal and one assist and Schmidt has also recorded three points on the same. The goal for McKendree has been guarded in full time (310 minutes) by senior keeper Alvaro Cortazar. Cortazar has a goals allowed average of 0.87. 

The series between Lewis and McKendree is knotted up at 4-4-1, with the last three matches going to the Bearcats.

Against the nationally-ranked Greyhounds, McKendree holds a 1-6-2 record, dropping the match last season to the Hounds. McKendree beat UIndy in 2019 at Leemon Field.

UIndy sits 3-0 on the year, beating UMSL, Ohio Dominican, and Ashland so far through the year. Steinwascher leads the Hounds in points with five while seven others have collected two points in a variety of ways. The Hounds earned the No. 2 national ranking in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll with their undefeated record so far. 

NOTES:
McKendree looks to extend its winning streak over the Flyers to four games. The streak dates back to September of 2018.

Senior forward James Stone (Eastbourne, England) leads the team in points with four off two goals. Stone has sent five shots with four on frame this year. 

Freshman midfielder Philipp Schmidt (Heidelberg, Germany) scored his first collegiate goal against Ashland and then recorded his first career assist against Southern Indiana. He has three points on the year.

Senior midfielder Eddie Davis (Arundel, England) has notched one goal and one assist this year.

Friday's game for men's soccer will kick off at 7:30 P.M.
