Men's Soccer Unable to Find Footing Versus No. 2 UIndy

Hyke nets first ogal of season, Stone collects his fourth via Schmidt

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's soccer dropped back-to-back matches on Sunday, losing to the Greyhounds of Indianapolis, who are ranked second nationally (United Soccer Coaches).

The Bearcats fell victim to an early deficit of 2-0 in the first 11 minutes of action in the afternoon contest. UIndy came out of the gate with a purpose, pressing the Bearcat back line with multiple forwards. The University of Indianapolis has won back-to-back matches over the Bearcats with the 5-2 victory.

McKendree's biggest break came in the latter half of the first 45 minutes on a progression where freshman midfielder Philipp Schmidt maneuvered through the UIndy defense and dished a pass off near the net to senior forward James Stone, who knocked it in. It was Stone's fourth goal of the season and Schmidt's second assist this year.

Going into the half time period, the deficit remained at one goal for the Bearcats but Indianapolis was able to net another quick pair of scores in the 53rd and 56th minute.

The final score for the Bearcats came in the 70th minute via a long, booming strike to an upper 90 by sophomore midfielder Fetiol Hyke, marking his first goal of the season and his first career goal as a Bearcat.

UIndy added one final goal in the 80th minute, which capped off the match for the Greyhounds.

NOTES:
Fetiol Hyke (Pogradec, Albania) scored his first career goal in the match versus the Greyhounds. The shot was a long-distance strike, beyond the 18-yard box.

James Stone (Eastbourne, England) collected his fourth goal of the season with a short shot in the 34th minute of the match. Stone's goal was assisted on by Philipp Schmidt (Heidelberg, Germany), his second of the year.

Stone leads the Bearcats in points this year with eight on four goals while Schmidt follows with four behind one goal and two assists.
