LEBANON, Ill. – The McKendree men's water polo team returns to action this week as they play three Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference games in two days hosted by Mercyhurst and held at the Halleman Aquatic Center in Erie, Pa.
The Bearcats will face off against Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. CT, before meeting Mercyhurst at 2 p.m. CT.
On Sunday, Sept. 26, the Bearcats will conclude the weekend with a 9 a.m. CT game against Gannon (Pa.) University.
LAST TIME OUT RECAP
McKendree comes into the weekend sporting a 1-2 overall record after competing at the Rare Air Challenge hosted by the United States Air Force Academy on Sept. 4-5. At the event, the Bearcats opened the season with an 18-13 loss in an exhibition game against Cal Lutheran, before falling 10-5 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sept. 4 and then earning a 21-12 win over Ottawa (Ariz.) University and then concluding the event with 17-10 setback to Air Force.
On the season, graduate student
Uros Pelemis leads the way for the Bearcats as he has scored a team-best 11 goals, while senior
Nico Rodriguez (Bogota, Colombia/Oviedo) is next on the team with 10 goals in four games.
Fifth-year season
Ori Scanlon (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) has played all 128 minute in goal this season for the Bearcats.
SCOUTING WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON
Washington & Jefferson enters the weekend sporting a 4-2 overall record and the Presidents have won two straight games, including picking up a 15-11 win in their most recent action last Sunday in Erie, Pa., against Penn State-Behrend.
SCOUTING MERCYHURST
Mercyhurst comes into the weekend having already played nine games on the season as the Lakers are sporting an 0-9 record and have lost 11 consecutive games dating to last season. Ironically, Mercyhurst's losing skid began with a 15-9 loss to McKendree in the semifinal round of the MAWPC-West Region Championships. Mathieu Davis is their top goal scorer as he has tallied 19 goals and six assists, while Derek Kagen has scored 16 goals and leads the team with 13 assists. Nash Greevan has played every game in goal for the Lakers and he has allowed 79 goals and collected 76 saves.
SCOUTING GANNON
Gannon comes into the weekend sporting a 2-3 record after playing four games on Sept. 4-5 at the Bruno Classic hosted by Brown University. At the tournament, Gannon opened with a 17-12 win over Austin College, before dropping three straight games as they 11-7 to St. Francis Brooklyn, 20-7 to Santa Clara University and 17-10 to Brown University. The Golden Knights other win came at home on Sept. 11 as they picked up a 13-11 victory over Mount St. Mary's (Md.).

Following its three games in Erie, Pa., this weekend, the Bearcats will next be in action on Thursday, Sept. 30 as they open their six game trip to Southern California with a 10 a.m. P.T. game at Westcliff University in Irvine, before playing four games (Oct. 1-2) at the Gary Troyer Invitational and then concluding the trip with an 11 a.m. PT game on Oct. 3 at the University of La Verne.
