LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's soccer travels west for two Great Lakes Valley Conference matchups this upcoming weekend, beginning with William Jewell on October 1 and Truman State on October 3. The Bearcats will look to extend an unbeaten streak, which sits at two games behind a 1-0-1 weekend on September 24 and 26.
McKendree has been led early on by senior forward
James Stone, who has amassed five goals during the fall while senior forward
Gonzalo Correa owns two goals in the last two contests to rank second on the Bearcats in points with four. Correa is tied with senior midfielder
Eddie Davis and freshman midfielder
Philipp Schmidt, who also have four points behind one goal and two assists each. The Bearcats beat Illinois Springfield on September 26, 1-0, while they tied the Hawks of Quincy on September 24, 2-2. The goal has been under the guard of senior keeper
Alvaro Cortazar, who has logged full-time with a goals allowed average of 1.52 on the year.
William Jewell:
The Cardinals of William Jewell own a 1-6-0 record in the fall so far and enter the Friday match versus McKendree with four-straight losses. The Bearcats own a 7-2-1 all-time advantage over the Cardinals, winning the last three matches. William Jewell's lone victory of the year came against Southwest Baptist on September 12. Three individuals for Jewell have recorded a goal while two have recorded an assist. The Cardinals also enter the weekend with zero goals scored over their last three outings.
Truman State:
The Bulldogs have not won a match this season and enter the weekend with an 0-7 record with only a singular goal scored. Truman is scoreless in six-straight matchups and scored its only goal against Upper Iowa on September 5 in a 1-2 loss. Only one player has collected points for the Bulldogs on the year via the singular goal scored.
NOTES:
McKendree looks to continue an unbeaten streak on the year while also extending winning streak over the opposing forces of William Jewell and Truman State. The Bearcats own three-game winning streaks over both GLVC foes currently, dating back to 2018.
Senior forwards
James Stone (Eastbourne, England) and
Gonzalo Correa (Santiago, Chile) have led the Bearcat offense over the last two matches with three goals. Stone leads the team on the season with five goals while Correa marked two goals in two games this last weekend.
Senior midfielder
Eddie Davis (Arundel, England), freshman midfielder
Philipp Schmidt (Heidelberg, Germany), and sophomore midfielder
Fetiol Hyke all have one goal on the year while Davis and Schmidt both own two assists on top of the goals scored.
