No.5 Men's Wrestling Wins Ninth-Straight Dual, Remains Unbeaten in GLVC

Bearcats handle William Jewell to continue undefeated streak

LIBERTY, Mo. - Fifth-ranked McKendree University men's wrestling collected another dual victory with a dominant, 42-6 performance over William Jewell on Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats have amassed nine dual wins following the first round of the NWCA National Duals and own a 10-1 record on the season.

A pair of fall wins lead the outing for No.5 McKendree with freshmen Christian Cartright and Max Rinklin each earning a pin in under two minutes during their respective matchups. The Branson, Missouri-native, Cartright, wrestled in the 125 class and secured a takedown in the first period, enabling him to collect his fall at the 1:21 mark over Jewell's Zachary Kalafut, giving the Bearcats six points. Rinklin, a native Manchester, Missouri, went to work early on with a takedown and nearfall during the initial three-minute period. The pairing of a takedown and nearfall gave the Rinklin his chance which he took to earn the fall at the 1:54 mark over the Cardinals' Jayce Taylor.

Ryan Haynes, a freshman from Pekin, Illinois, brought home a victory by decision (157lb class) against Caleb Benshoof with four points in the first period, which gave him a 4-2 lead to enter the second. Haynes gained one more point in the second via an escape while earning his sixth in the third period by escape. Meanwhile, the Cardinals nabbed a reversal to cut Haynes' lead to just two points. Graduate senior Vincenzo Scaletta gained McKendree's second decision victory with a 9-7 win in the 197 class. Scaletta made three takedowns in the first period, giving him a 6-3 lead against Ian Lawson of William Jewell. In the second period, the graduate senior then tacked on a reversal and gained ne final point in the third, securing him the win.

McKendree nabbed forfeiture wins in the 133 (Ryan Ripplinger), 165 (Robbie Snellenberger), 184 (Rozell Baker), and heavyweight (Julian Ramirez) classes during the dual.

The Bearcats dropped matches in the 141 and the 149 by decision, giving the Cardinals six points during the outing.
