LIBERTY, Mo. - Fifth-ranked McKendree University men's wrestling collected another dual victory with a dominant, 42-6 performance over William Jewell on Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats have amassed nine dual wins following the first round of the NWCA National Duals and own a 10-1 record on the season.
A pair of fall wins lead the outing for No.5 McKendree with freshmen
Christian Cartright and
Max Rinklin each earning a pin in under two minutes during their respective matchups. The Branson, Missouri-native, Cartright, wrestled in the 125 class and secured a takedown in the first period, enabling him to collect his fall at the 1:21 mark over Jewell's Zachary Kalafut, giving the Bearcats six points. Rinklin, a native Manchester, Missouri, went to work early on with a takedown and nearfall during the initial three-minute period. The pairing of a takedown and nearfall gave the Rinklin his chance which he took to earn the fall at the 1:54 mark over the Cardinals' Jayce Taylor.
Ryan Haynes, a freshman from Pekin, Illinois, brought home a victory by decision (157lb class) against Caleb Benshoof with four points in the first period, which gave him a 4-2 lead to enter the second. Haynes gained one more point in the second via an escape while earning his sixth in the third period by escape. Meanwhile, the Cardinals nabbed a reversal to cut Haynes' lead to just two points. Vincenzo Scaletta gained McKendree's second decision victory with a 9-7 win in the 197 class. Scaletta made three takedowns in the first period, giving him a 6-3 lead against Ian Lawson of William Jewell. In the second period, the graduate senior then tacked on a reversal and gained ne final point in the third, securing him the win.
McKendree nabbed forfeiture wins in the 133 (
Ryan Ripplinger), 165 (
Robbie Snellenberger), 184 (
Rozell Baker), and heavyweight (
Julian Ramirez) classes during the dual.
The Bearcats dropped matches in the 141 and the 149 by decision, giving the Cardinals six points during the outing.
